Tom Tykwer – A Visionary of the Cinema

Abstract
Book review of Obrazo-światy, dźwięko-przestrzenie. Kino Toma Tykwera [World-Images, Sound-Spaces: Tom Tykwer’s Cinema] (2016) by Ewa Fiuk. Włodek points out that the peer-reviewed publication is not a traditional monograph on Tom Tykwer nor his biography. Ewa Fiuk, a specialist in contemporary German cinema, does not follow the routine of describing the “life and work” and the chronological analysis of his films. Instead, she focuses on the themes and obsessions present in the director’s work, as well as on technical issues. The reviewer presents the structure of the book in detail as well as the contents of the individual chapters, while also giving constructive criticism. In Patrycja Włodek’s opinion, the great advantage of this book is Fiuk’s proficiency in technological issues, which is largely absent from Polish literature on film. In conclusion, it is suggested that this publication may be of interest not only to readers interested in Tykwer’s cinema or in contemporary German cinema but also to those seeking a less conventional approach to the subject matter of cinema and those who are keen on an analysis of technological issues.

W kręgu jej zainteresowań znajdują się zagadnienia z zakresu historii kina, ze szczególnym uwzględnieniem kinematografii amerykańskiej i neoseriali.
