Abstract
Kosińska-Krippner presents the volume Der Frankenstein-Komplex. Kulturgeschichtliche Aspekte des Traums vom künstlichen Menschen (ed. Rudolf Drux, 1999), a collection of papers given by artists, scholars and commentators at an interdisciplinary symposium on cultural and historical aspects of the dream of artificial human in Weimar on June 18-20, 1999. The book contains literary and scholarly texts on artificial human constructed by medical, biological or physical experiments or created by social and medial mechanisms. The collection features two articles on the cinema; literary and film critic Hans Jörg Marsilius’s filmography of 43 major films on Frankenstein in the history of motion pictures (1910-1994) and variations typical of the genre with a commentary; the other text entitled Master and Servant: On Artificial Man in Film, was written by Thomas Koebner, a film science lecturer from Mainz. He says in the article that man’s relation to artificial human reflects a kind of the primeval conflict between master and slave.
