Reckoning With German Cinema
Abstract
A book review of Ewa Fiuk’s Inicjacje, tożsamość, pamięć. Kino niemieckie na przełomie wieków (Initiations, identity, memory. German Cinema at the Turn of the Century, 2012) devoted to the latest trends in German cinema. Pitrus highly appreciates the work of the film expert and a Germanist all in one person. She maintains a good balance between description and commentary. Reader who does not know the films discussed in the book will not need to look for their synopsis on the Internet. Ewa Fiuk brings each film closer to the reader in a very smooth way, allowing the reader to get a good idea of the character of the film in question. At the same time she comments on them in a very astute manner, bringing forth that, which is most important. Andrzej Pitrus’ review is a recommendation of this valuable book published in a series initiated by prof. Andrzej Gwóźdź of the University of Silesia and devoted to the issues related to Germany.
