Film as a Building Site
Abstract
Book review of Marcin Adamczak’s Obok ekranu. Perspektywa badań produkcyjnych a społeczne istnienie filmu [Beside the screen. The perspective of production studies and the social existence of film] (2014). The book is set in the context of little known and underestimated in Poland area of film studies - that is production studies. The review lists and describes the most important methodological assumptions indicated by the author of the book. He also highlighted the usefulness of sociological methods, focus groups and observation based research, as well as elements of management and economics for production studies. This model of film studies, tested by Adamczak on the domestic cinema for the past few years, is an important example of changes taking place in contemporary research on film.
