Historian of cinema, film critic and translator. Professor of the Lodz Film School. He wrote or edited books: Eisenstein – artysta i myśliciel [Eisenstein: Artist and Thinker] (1982), Zbigniew Cybulski. Aktor XX wieku [Zbigniew Cybulski: The Actor of 21st Century] (1997), Zwierciadło Bergmana [Bergman’s Mirror] (1997, 1999, 2002, 2007), Cudowny Kinemo. Rosyjska myśl filmowa [The Wonderful Kinemo: Russian Film Theory] (2002), Biografistyka filmowa. Ekranowe interpretacje losów i faktów [Biopics: Screen Interpretations of Fates and Facts] (2007), Jan Troell (2009), Od Ibsena do Aho. Filmowe adaptacje literatury skandynawskiej [From Ibsen to Aho: Film Adaptations of Scandinavian Literature] (2015) and Kino nordyckie [Nordic Cinema] (2020). He has translated numerous books from Swedish (e.g. Ingmar Bergman’s Images, Performances and Three Diaries).
