Film theorist and historian, Professor of film studies at the University of Lodz. His research interests include theory of film diegesis, narratology, German cinema in the Weimar Republic and the Third Reich, as well as cinéma de qualité, French film before the New Wave. Author of the books: Film fikcji i jego dominanty [Fiction Film and its Dominants] (1999), Dekada doktora Mabuse [The Decade of Dr. Mabuse] (2006), Od Mabusego do Goebbelsa [From Mabuse to Goebbels] (2013); co-author (with E. Nurczyńska-Fidelska, P. Sitarski, and K. Klejsa) of the textbook Kino bez tajemnic [Cinema without Secrets] (2009).
