Abstract
The translation of Jacques Aumont’s book Interpretation of Films is an opportunity for the Polish reader to face the contemporary problems of analysing and interpreting a film work from the perspective of French film theory. The book is an example of an original lecture on film interpretation, whose phenomenon lies in the fact that it is both the viewer’s everyday experience and a professionally performed art. Aumont’s writing method could be defined as the method of juxtaposition: putting existing interpretations side by side in order to verify their effectiveness, viability or universality.
