Abstract

Kletowski explores the creative activity of Andrzej Zuławski, focusing on the style, intensity and main plots of his films. Kletowski argues that they are invariably marked by disintegration and corruption, and for the director, Romanticism is a “horror of blood, fire and sperm, taking place under the empty sky”. The life of Zuławski’s heroes is a spasmodic tussle, excesses, violence, cruelty, tears and ugliness in which beauty manifests itself just for a split second.
