The Secrets of “Persona”
Abstract
Tadeusz Szczepański presents a book from the Classics of Cinema series, edited by Małgorzata and Marek Hendrykowski, containing analyses of the masterpieces of world cinema. In this book known film scholar and psychoanalyst Don Fredricksen deals with Ingmar Bergman’s Persona. Szczepański points to the renewed interest in Bergman’s work. The film has been analysed many times. Regarded as one of the most complicated and enigmatic films ever, it has been the subject of analysis of most notable critics. In his analysis Fredricksen makes references to Jung and the concept of the liminal cinema that touches on the issue of the state of a transition between consciousness and unconsciousness.
