The Dream About Beautiful Cinema
Abstract
Kino, wehikuł magiczny [Cinema - the magic vehicle] is one of the most interesting lexicons of world cinema to be published in Poland. Twenty six years after the first edition of the book, describing the years 1913-1949, was published, the authors - Adam Garbicz and Jacek Klinowski - decided to re-edit and reissue the first volume of the series, and introduce a number of corrections and additional informations. Maciejewski stresses the exceptional value of this publication in the Polish literature on film. He also appreciates the subjectivism characterising this volume. The quality of this work lies in the successful combination of encyclopaedic precision and meticulous work on title sequences and opening credits, with historic, artistic, and sociological context of each film, as well as with clear, and at times controversial, interpretation by the authors.
