Abstract
According to the opinion of Giannalberto Bendazzi, expressed in the recently published three volume work Animation. A World History (2016), New York is a major centre for the development of American independent animation. This is also confirmed by a double DVD released thanks to the initiative of Bill Plympton, Signe Baumane and Patrick Smith entitled Avoid Eye Contact. Best of NYC Independent Animation (2003, 2005). The author of the article reconstructs the list of artists belonging to the New York community and uses the occasion to bring us closer to the two most important representatives of the movement – Bill Plympton and Signe Baumane, whom he interviewed in Krakow, during the International Film Festival Etiuda&Anima that took place in 2007 and 2015.
