Cinema of the Time of Transformation – Case: Russia
Abstract
Rutkowska discusses Anna Lawton’s two books, Before the Fall. Soviet Cinema in the Gorbachev Years and Imaging Russia 2000. Film and Facts. Lawton is a specialist in contemporary Soviet and Russian cinema. The books combine vast knowledge of the topic and the method consisting in a confrontation of the image of Russia represented in films with Lawton’s experience from her stay in the country. Of importance in Lawton’s reflections are the relationships between Russian cinema with politics, economic transformations and changes of morals after the fall of the iron curtain.
