Trapped by the Media
Abstract
Mazierska reviews Krzysztof Loska’s book Tożsamość i Media. O filmach Atoma Egoyana (Identity and the Media. On Atom Egoyan ’s Films), an in-depth analysis of the Canadian film director’s feature films HmmNextofKin to Where the Truth Lies72005/, short films or TV spectacles. Mazierska praises Loska's erudite argument, perceptive look and expertise. She points to the manner in which Loska isolates the so-called Egoyan’s captive, dispersed and fragile world from these quasi-autobiographical films. The analyses continue to revolve around the issue of identity and the media although Loska touches on many other problems, including the way in which the director uses film genre, among others. In her concluding Mazierska remarks says that the book tells us all we don’t know yet about Egoyan although its author avoids making personal comments that she says should have been made when such a private thing as identity is being discussed.
