Abstract

Starting with the idea of the American film critic Owen Gleiberman, that SFX cinema created the culture of unreality, and that very culture produced Donald Trump, the author recalls a number of films that somehow foresaw the emergence of this businessman and showman on the political scene. These films are: A Face in the Crowd (dir. Elia Kazan, 1957), The Best Man (dir. Franklin J. Schaffner, 1964) and Bob Roberts (dir. Tim Robbins, 1992).
