Filmoznawczyni, profesor nadzwyczajny w Instytucie Sztuk Audiowizualnych Uniwersytetu Jagiellońskiego. Autorka pięciu książek, m.in. Niedole miłowania. Ideologia i perswazja w melodramatach filmowych (2001), Polański od A do Z (2002), Władcy wyobraźni. Sławni bohaterowie filmowi (2006), oraz ponad dwustu artykułów na temat filmu powszechnego i polskiego; redaktorka jedenastu tomów zbiorowych, m.in. Od Ramajany do Slumdoga. Filmowe adaptacje literatury indyjskiej (współred. Tatiana Szurlej, 2015). Interesuje się kulturą popularną, jest wielbicielką kina indyjskiego i seriali brytyjskich.
