A Report From International Conference “The Film and Theatre World of Andrzej Wajda” (October 25-28, 2001)
Abstract
The conference, held in Łódź, attended by Polish and foreign film scholars has proved that the work of Andrzej Wajda – which seems to be so well-known, documented and analysed – is still the source of inspiration for a deep and multi-faceted discussion. Wajda and Gazeta Wyborcza daily editor-in-chief Adam Michnik opened the three-day conference in October 2001. Don Fredericksen, Christofer Caes, Alicja Helman, Ewa Mazierska, Izabela Kalinowska-Blackwood, Tomasz Kłys, Ewelina Nurczyńska-Fidelska, Paul Coates, Marie-Claude Taranger, Tadeusz Lubelski discussed Wajda’s attitudes towards Polish and European tradition and culture. Terri Ginsberg, Michael Stevenson and Bartosz Kwieciński met to discuss Jewish issues in his films, and Wajda’s movies were also viewed from the point of view of the gender studies by Małgorzata Radkiewicz, Anna Pietura and Elżbieta Ostrowska. Ivan Forgács, Irina Rubanowa and Janina Falkowska spoke about the reception of Wajda’s films abroad.
