Before the Social Realism Was Proclaimed
Abstract
Alina Madej’s monograph on Polish cinema of 1944-1949 embraces a period of the rise of the Socialist Realism in Poland. Extremely valuable and unpublished primary sources allow Madej to show the attitudes and choices made by participants of then cultural life. Hendrykowska points out that the whole monograph denies numerous „obvious” truths and generalizations on the period, that have grown over the past decades.
