In the Gateway to Life: On the Film “The Gateway to Europe”: Seweryn Kuśmierczyk Talks with Jerzy Wójcik
Abstract
The Gateway to Europe is the adaptation of Melchior Wańkowicz’s short story Szpital w Cichiniczach documenting the 1918 events on Poland’s Eastern borderland. Film director Jerzy Wójcik speaks in a conversation with Seweryn Kuśmierczyk about the importance of national remembrance, on symbols included in the film, on the symbolic triads, on the metaphor of winter and the concept of colouring in the film. He also speaks of his collaboration with cameraman Witold Sobociński and praises the audio-visual sensitivity of Zbigniew Konieczny who wrote the music for The Gateway to Europe.
