Abstract
Marta Maciejewska’s book Dialektyka formy. Pełnometra- żowe filmy fabularne Jana Švankmajera [Dialectics of Form: Jan Švankmajer’s Feature Films] (2023) is an attempt to prove that in Švankmajer’s full-length productions the language of these films is incorporated by the surrealist language of short films, resulting in a completely new, original film form. The proposed hypothesis, due to its poor theoretical grounding and overly extensive film descriptions, can be defended only to a minimal extent. Nevertheless, Maciejewska’s book is a key title for those who want to get acquainted with the complete creative profile of one of the most fascinating artists in contemporary cinema.
