Poles and Jews in “Border Street”
Abstract
Aleksander Ford’s Border Street was the first post-war feature film portraying the Holocaust, an uprising in Warsaw ghetto. Ford touched upon the complicated issue of Polish-Jewish relations entangled in „anti-Semitism complex”. Litka argues that showing Poles’ anti-Semitism shortly after World War II and three years after Kielce pogrom was an act of artistic courage of Ford. The minutes of a commission meeting of June 1-2, 1948 is an interesting supplement to the essay. The commission was to decide whether or not the film was to be released.
