On Jewish Theatre and Ida Kamińska: Piotr Litka in Conversation with Szymon Szurmiej
Abstract
Szymon Szurmiej talks about his Jewish, Polish and Ukrainian roots, and the start of his theatre career. He also talks about Jewish theatres in Poland, about the context they worked in and their people’s origin. He outlines the profile of Ida Kamińska, the most prominent representative of the theatre. Szurmiej had closely cooperated with the actress before she left Poland for the United States during an outbreak of anti-Semitism in 1968.
