Only Two Scenes: A Vision of a Galician Shtetl in “The Sandglass” by Wojciech Jerzy Has
Abstract
Litka tries to outline a specific climate of the already mythical Galician Jewish shtetl from texts by Brunon Schultz, Andrzej Chciuk, Sholem Alejchem and chiefly from The Sandglass directed by Wojciech Jerzy Has. The film is both the adaptation of Schulz’s prose and - as Has notes - an essay on Schulzian themes.
