Abstract
Discussing Vilem Flusser’s Fuer eine Philosophie der Fotografie (1983), the text from the media literature canon, Mazur points out that Flusser went beyond the boundaries of an academic analysis of photography when he addressed major problems of the functioning of media in culture, of communication/manipulation, of the dominance of technical pictures over text and the growing dependence of people on man-made machines. According to Mazur, Flusser’s book is an unparalleled general analysis of cultural and media techniques when he poses important questions about the boundaries of man’s freedom today.
