Abstract

Anna Mikonis talks with three Lithuanian film directors Sarunas Bartas, Audrius Stonys and Valdas Navasaitis. They contributed to the development of Lithuania's cinema in the difficult years of the early 1990s. The three were more or less linked to Kinema, the first independent, both legally and artistically, Lithuanian film studio set up in 1987 by graduates of the Russian State Institute of Cinematography. The directors speak about the latest developments in the country's film industry, and about production, financial and technical problems they face. At the same time they reveal their sensitivity - although their films differ significantly, they are inscribed into the tradition of Lithuanian cinema, aesthetically and thematically.
