Abstract

The power of science fiction film lies in that it contains both pure fiction and direct references to man’s real possibilities, therefore aliens and robots, the most numerous sci-fi heroes, are always an exaggeration or contradiction of some human features. Rudzka’s robots are classified according to artificial mind and artificial body. When analysing the former, Rudzka cites examples from literature and film to touch upon problems sci-fi films often explore, such as emotional identity, lack of capacity to feel compassion by thinking machines. Analysing the latter, she discusses examples of fantastic and real possibilities of the transformation of body, e.g. replacement of worn-out organs, cloning or plastic surgery.
