Puppet Theatre, Bauhaus, Richard Teschner, Cineforms: Some Remarks on Early Artistic Activity of Andrzej Pawłowski
Abstract
Cineforms are the moving pictures created from abstract spatial forms set in motion, lit and filtered through a system of the distorting lenses and projected onto the screen. This kind of artistic activity brought fame to Andrzej Pawlowski in the 1950s. The solutions followed a series of experiments with puppet theatre (puppets reflected in the mirror). His next step was to apply a system of the distorting mirrors to produce deformed images. Afterwards, the mechanism was supplemented with the magnifying lenses. The invention was called „epidiascope theatre”. Pawlowski’s designs have its roots probably in theatre experiments of Bauhaus and of Richard Teschner.
