The Story of a Myth
Abstract
Mąka’s article is about the picture of a leader-worker in Hanna Krall’s novel Spokojne niedzielne popołudnie (A Quiet Sunday Afternoon), in Wojciech Wiszniewski’s documentary Opowieść o człowieku, który wykonał 552 % normy (A Story of the Man Who Fulfilled 552 % of Production Quota) and Andrzej Wajda’s feature film Człowiek z marmuru (Man of Marble). Mąka tries to discover a mechanism of the deconstruction of a myth. The three pieces are tied both thematically and genetically. Wiszniewski’s film is a documentary adaptation of the novel while Wajda’s film has roots in Wiszniewski’s documentary. The essential plot are also constructional similarities and the use of similar artistic solutions although they are entirely different poetically and formally (literary reportage, documentary and feature film).
