Abstract

The author reflects on the role of the unconscious factor in the work of the filmmaker, who himself remains open to the unconscious, and in this context analyses Larry Jordan’s animated film Patricia Gives Birth to a Dream by the Doorway (1964). Nowadays, it is hard to overestimate research possibilities opening up for film critique based on the hypotheses rooted in Jung’s depth psychology. However, taking into account an unconsciousness factor in a cinematic work, and a creative process itself consisting in the quest for an external manifestation of the inner no-Self rarely attain such a high degree of cohesion of the logic of an argument with the theory of Jung and other researchers with a background in depth psychology.
