Abstract

Labirynt światła is an exceptional item that cannot easily fit within the trend of increasingly popular biography writing. Although the reader will find reminiscences from Jerzy Wójcik's life, descriptions of collaboration with directors or anecdotes from film set, they are not the chief subject of the book. It allows the reader to trace the phases of Wójcik's development of thinking about film. Under this philosophy, only finding deep sensitivity to the world and nature; sharpening one's sense of observation and trying to grasp the relationship between matter, its form and light is a guarantee that the viewer will fully experience a film, when it is being made and seen. Therefore, the reading of Labirynt światła is more of the journey into the artist's world of ideas than the discovery of the secrets of he cinematographer's technique.
