Painting With Movement: The Meaning of Image in Films by Akira Kurosawa
Abstract
The article deals with the visual aspect of films by Akira Kurosawa. The imagery has roots in paintings and silent films admired by Kurosawa, and also in the life of the director. Sawicki looks at elements of the style, and considers the relation between the images created by Kurosawa with the philosophy present in his films. He defines movement as the most important element in the work of the Japanese master.
