Abstract

International co-production is an increasingly common way of making films. It is particularly popular in Europe, where EU programmes have been encouraging member countries to cooperate for years. The development of national cinematography largely depends on the effective search for new sources of financing and the acquisition of foreign film markets. There is also a battle in this field between the largest film industries in the world – Hollywood and the Chinese film industry. To beat Americans in terms of profits from global distribution, the Chinese would have to dominate third-country markets, primarily the European ones. The struggle for the viewer takes place in different areas, and one of them is co-production, aimed primarily at popularizing Chinese culture, while also giving European cinematographies the opportunity to develop and profit from the Chinese film market.
