Sarai: A New Media Centre
Abstract
Lovink describes the idea of a media centre, opened in Delhi in association with the Dutch government, to help the general public and Hindu artists get accustomed to new media technologies. The project is accompanied by comprehensive educational, art and social programmes.

Teoretyk mediów i krytyk Internetu. Skończył wydział nauk politycznych na uniwersytecie w Amsterdamie, pracował jako niezależny krytyk, producent, wydawca, radiowiec. Organizował liczne konferencje, forum online, jest autorem publikacji i projektów, takich jak wspólnota internetowych providerów, mailing listy i laboratoria medialne. Przez ostatnich 20 lat żył i pracował w Berlinie, Budapeszcie i innych krajach Europy Środkowej i Wschodniej oraz w Japonii. Wykładał teorie mediów, wspierał media niezależne i nową kulturę medialną. Był wydawcą magazynu „Mediamatic” poświęconego nowym mediom ( 1989-1994), członkiem stowarzyszenia teoretyków Adilkno, które wydało dwie książki: Cracking the Movement (1994) i Media Archive (1998). W 1995 r. współfinansował międzynarodową mailing listę Nettime, która stała się materiałem do antologii Readme! (1999). Obecnie zajmuje się badaniami nad relacjami między kulturą a „Nową Ekonomią”. Jego trwająca 10 lat współpraca z holenderskim designerem Mieke Gerritzenem jest udokumentowana w Catalogue of Strategies (2001). W 2002 MIT Press opublikowało jego dwie książki: Uncanny Networks (wywiady z teoretykami mediów i artystami) i Dark Fiber (o kulturze Internetu). Od 2000 r. mieszka w Sydney w Australii.
