Portraiture in Film, Video and Internet: Some Axioms, Comparisons, and Examples
Abstract
The invention of photography helped change the function of portrait in art. It ceased to be an elite work of art. Lellis defines the most important features of portraying, and makes a critical analysis of portraiture in the cinema and video, the two media that played a dominant role in the 20th century. He also reflects on how digital media, especially the Internet (with self-portraits on web sites) may bring about further transform portraiture, leading to a radical change in the presentation of the outward features of the individual.
