Abstract

Dzięglewski discusses the artistic activity of Jerzy Skolimowski, one of those Polish directors who tried to find an independent creative approach after the so-called Polish school of film had come to an end. At the time Skolimowski was the most interesting representative of the auteur cinema. Andrzej Leszczyc, the hero of Identification Marks and Walkover, played by Skolimowski himself, brought to the character many personal features, concerns and dilemmas, which reflected problems of the whole generation. So was the case with the hero of Barrier and the heroes of Hands Up, the last movie Skolimowski shot in Poland. That strong generation trait and courage in finding original formal solutions makes Dzięglewski argue that Skolimowski’s films of that time remain attractive and artistically powerful.
