Abstract
Bialikiewicz explores the phenomenon of Monica Vitti’s acting in the context of the parts she played in Antonioni’s films. She adds that Antonioni treated the actor as a sign to fill in the space created by the director. The Italian director required absolute submission from actors and actresses but could force them to release spontaneous reactions and emotions. Bialikiewicz writes about the type of heroines Antonioni had created by exploiting some of Vitti’s predispositions, which disappeared when she terminated her cooperation with the director.
