Abstract

The term la movida is used in Spain to denote a renewal movement in art and culture after the death of General Franco. A generation of young artists came to the fore after his death; they introduced new trends in music, fashion, literature, painting and cinema, sometimes referred to as „drug subculture”. La movida was inspired by London’s neo-punk and the blend of influences of culture, pop, punk and heavy metal with local elements or zarzuela and sevillana, used for travesty and parody. In this period Almodóvar’s artistic activity included book writing and filmmaking but he also performed as an actor and pop-rock singer. Citko writes how Almodóvar has drawn on his (not only) artistic experience from the la movida period in his future artistic work.
