Abstract

Michalska depicts a history of the film that hasn’t had chances of becoming a hit. The film is Henryk Kluba’s 5 of Pale Joe, based on the short story by Wiesław Dymny. The film tells the story of a group of young country people who didn’t fit in with the role models of the Polish People’s Republic. They were dreaming of freedom and living space and of a life free of routine and everyday chores. They were fascinated with motorbikes and heroes styled on a free riders from Dennis Hopper’s film although the movie was not released in Poland. Kluba’s film certainly was not a masterpiece but what’s characteristic is the fear of decision makers of a provocation the movie contained. Michalska points out that both political issues and moral conservatism of the decision makers were of some importance.
