Censor as a Co-Author of the Film
Abstract
Mazur reviews Anna Misiak’s book Cinema Under Control: Film Censorship in Socialist and Democratic Countries (Socialist Poland and USA). A Sociological Analysis (Kinematograf kontrolowany. Cenzura filmowa w kraju socjalistycznym i demokratycznym /PRL i USA/. Analiza socjologiczna). Although Misiak considers two different forms of government and two different types of restrictions, dimensions and forms of repression, and different intensity of censors’ activity as well as reasons for such activity, the scale of the similarities between the two worlds of censorship is surprising. Misiak considers censorship both in the context of film studies and from the point of view of a sociologist.
