Abstract

The announcement is devoted to a life-sketch, written by composer, organist and music activist from Warsaw, Józef Kozłowski, who was the first director of music in the Direction of Imperial Theatres in Petersburg. The document is a very important source in which the musician gives his exact date of birth: 10 September, 1759. This is two years later than the year 1757, universally accepted in current music lexicography.

The author is the first Polish scholar to describe Józef Kozłowski’s autograph, translate it into Polish and publish its source.
