Previously Unknown Musical Sources from the Załuski Library: A Preliminary Report
Abstract
The Załuski Library was the foremost library of the eighteenth-century Polish–Lithuanian Commonwealth. Its music holdings have hitherto been studied through the few surviving manuscripts and a rich collection of ephemera containing cantata texts, opera librettos, and the like. This preliminary report points out that previously unknown printed music from the Załuski Library is held by the National Library of Russia in St Petersburg. It also draws attention to a copy of twenty-four polonaises in edition issued by Lorenz Mizler. This is probably the earliest example of engraved music published in Warsaw.
