Abstract

The author of this report (who also penned the entry on Jan Baptysta Kleczyński in the PWM encyclopaedia of music) presents several previously unknown facts from the life of this composer and musician of the Viennese ensembles of the Breuners and the Brauns. Thanks to preliminary research conducted in archives in Vienna, she has established the precise dates f his membership of both orchestras, and in rediscovered letters to Constantin Wurzbach, author of a biographical dictionary of the Austrian Empire, she found evidence that the musician had studied in Cracow before departing for Italy and Austria. The author has also found information concerning Kleczyński’s nephews: Józef, a doctor and music lover, and Franciszek, a painter.
