Abstract
The article concerns the never implemented design for the restructuring of the Zamoyski Palace in Zamość drawn up in 1803–1804 by Charles Percier, Pierre-François-Léonard Fontaine and Alexandre Dufour on commission from Stanisław Kostka Zamoyski. The research is based on two manuscripts held at the National Library in Warsaw, containing detailed explanations of the design and the client’s comments, as well as a draft of instructions for the architects held at the Central Archives of Historical Records. An analysis of these documents not only allows for a partial reconstruction of the appearance of the lost drawings, but also enables us to trace the development of the project, which was the result of a close collaboration between the architects and the client. The article discusses the planned restructuring of the palace, the layout of its interiors and the conceptual programme for the residence. This project ranks among the most ambitious architectural undertakings to have been planned in the Polish lands during the Napoleonic era.
