AIMS AND SCOPE
Biuletyn Historii Sztuki is a peer-reviewed academic journal focusing on the history of visual arts, architecture, applied art, as well as art criticism and art theory from the Middle Ages to the present. The quarterly, in keeping with its tradition, addresses topics related to Polish artistic culture, systematically broadening the spectrum of topics to attract both Polish and international readership.
Biuletyn Historii Sztuki editorial team works for the advancement of academic research on art through a publishing policy that promotes inclusive, informed, and ethical academic debate based on reliable scholarly publications of the highest possible quality. In our publication ethics we follow the COPE guidelines.
As a journal available both in print and online (open access), we are also reaching out to authors and readers from other countries by publishing articles in Polish as well as English. The texts in Polish are accompanied by extensive summaries in English.
We welcome proposals from scholars of diverse backgrounds, both experienced and those at the beginning of their academic careers. To ensure greater diversity, inclusivity, and equity in academic debate, no fees are charged for submitting, processing, reviewing, or publishing manuscripts in Biuletyn Historii Sztuki.
We publish research articles, reviews of important exhibitions and books, as well as commemorations. Among the methodologically diverse papers we publish, the contributions presenting archival documents are accepted given that they provide a valuable primary material for art studies. Every year we also publish a chronicle of the Association of Art Historians.
We publish four volumes a year – both in paper and electronic version (published online in open access).
