Abstract

The text presents the origins and contexts of the 1st International Scientific Symposium: Perspectives of New Media: Art – Design – Science – Technology, which took place on December 1–4, 2023 thanks to the cooperation between the University of Silesia, the Academy of Fine Arts in Katowice, and the Silesian Museum, as part of events preceding the opening of the celebrations of the Year of the City of Science 2024 in Katowice. An international scientific, artistic, and popularization undertaking to which recognized experts, media researchers, and multimedia artists, both foreign and Polish, representing various scientific and artistic design centres, were invited. The article also presents the ideas and goals that guided the founders of the Center for Research on New Media Art, Culture and Technology at the University of Silesia.
