Abstract
This article discusses the ecology of the theatre ensemble, focusing on the creative work of actors. The conceptual framework for reflection on the threats and opportunities of ecological acting work is provided by Félix Guattari’s ecosophy, according to which changes in the social order that are necessary in the face of the threats of the Anthropocene should unfold on three planes: in the mental, social, and environmental ecologies. Applying this matrix to the actor’s situation in the creative process, the author of the article considers the negative and positive aspects of the palimpsestic character of the actors’ working ecosystems. Drawing on empirical research on the psychology of the actor’s creative process (Panero, 2019), the author posits the necessity of a system of safeguards for the actor’s dissociative process, both in the context of traditional psychological acting, and in relation to the postacting mode of creation in post-dramatic theatre. She refers to the situation of actors with stage experience as well as students of acting; in both cases, she postulates the development of the actors’ self-reflexive awareness of their entanglement in a palimpsestic and relational network of creative ecosystems.
